5. Architectural symmetry
The Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, (constructed from marble & gold with internals & prayer halls decorated in masses of Swarovski crystal), is one of the most memorable architectural wonders I’ve seen on my travels. Perfect symmetry everywhere & it was immediately obvious on arrival.
Getting back far enough with my camera’s travel lens at 24mm to capture a wide enough shot to show the scale of the external symmetry, was impossible & with no tripod, the distortion I was getting was terrible.
I resorted to my phone & shot this using the Panorama feature. Even then, this image does not show the complete view on the wings of the massive marble courtyard. Patience was needed to dodge crowds of people & I got pretty lucky with this shot!
The sun bouncing off all the white added another shooting issue, but overall I’m pretty happy with this image.

I was taking a photo of the lines of young wheat leading to the tree and lo! a train came passed! I had no idea if it would work and had no time to change settings to do a burst of shots so I just cranked up the shutter speed and hoped that one of the random single shots might miraculously jag it to catch between the carriages.
Maybe shutter speed is a bit too fast as it looks like a still image (but I know!)
The focus deeper in to the tree could be better and if I had crouched a bit lower, a bit more of the tree would have been visible but it was a magic surprise on the card.
