April 2019: Open

Heartbreaking memories

F/4.5
1/80
ISO 640

A poignant moment on ANZAC Day 2019 after Major Bill Burton (my uncle’s tank gunnery instructor – they also served in the same squadron) pinned my late Uncle Phil’s newly completed ribbon bar on to his uniform at the Gunnedah Water Tower Museum. Uncle Phil received shocking injuries, including the loss of both eyes, in June 1971 and died of his war wounds in 1988. Bill is pictured with my father, left, and uncle in the foreground.

“Golden Surfer”.

Taken on my 35mm, at 1/4000, f6.3, ISO100.
